Recreation Services Department:

Recreation Services is one of seven departments within the City of Richfield.  The department includes around 20 full-time and 65 part-time/seasonal employees.  The director of Recreation Services is Jim Topitzhofer.

The Richfield Recreation Services Department has 21 parks or 300 acres of park land, an ice arena with two ice sheets, an outdoor pool and waterslide, state-of-the-art skate park, 150-acre Nature Center, mini-golf course and dozens of programs, classes and services for everyone.

The success of the Department is attributed to dedicated staff and guidance and involvement of community and advisory groups, including the Community Services Commission, Friends of Wood Lake, and the Senior Advisory Board.

The Recreation Services Department plays an integral role in providing opportunities for residents to interact with one another. The Department aggressively promotes fun, play, good health, strong families, volunteerism and environmental education to people of all ages.

  • The Richfield Farmers Market draws nearly 40,000 visits annually.

  • The Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5 K has quickly grown into one of the area's most popular races by attracting over 1,000 runners.

  • 16,500 rounds of golf are played at the Adventure Gardens Mini Golf Course.

  • The Richfield Ice Arena has nearly a quarter of a million visits annually.
